  • Rosters
    • All teams must have USA Hockey 1-T roster into the league no later than October 1st, 2010.
    • Additions/Deletions must also be faxed to the league.
    • The SYHL will maintain the on-line rosters after October 1st
    • Players may not be rostered on any other SYHL team or on ANY higher level team (based upon the official USA Hockey roster) unless the player is participating in the player call up process.
    • Roster freeze is effective 12/31/10 at 9PM, on line rosters will be locked down at that time. Roster ads must be approved by the commissioner after 12/31/10.
    • Players must play a minimum 10 games with that team to be eligible for the playoffs.

SYHL Minimum Games Rule

Effective for the 2010-20111season, the SYHL will enforce a minimum game rule for all players.

A. The minimum game rule impacts a player’s eligibility for the SYHL playoffs.
     1. Players who do not meet the minimum game rule are ineligible to participate in all SYHL playoff and championship games.

B. Players must participate in at least 50% of that team’s league games.
     1. Game calculation starts from the date the player is approved and rostered on the SYHL web site.
     2. “Participate” means to be on the roster, in uniform, and on the bench for the duration of an SYHL game for that team.
     3. Players will not be given credit for game participation while serving any USA Hockey or SYHL suspension.

C. Verification will be the responsibility of the head coach and scorekeeper.
     1. The head coach or other team official must accurately report players who are scratched from a game.
     2. A single line through a player’s name on the scoresheet will indicate a player’s absence.
     3. The game scorekeeper will verify game rosters during the warm up period and notify the on ice officials of any discrepancies. The on ice officials will rectify any discrepancies prior to the start of the game.
     4. The game scoresheet will serve as the official record of a player’s participation in a game.
     5. Any head coach who intentionally neglects to scratch a player may be subject to a one game suspension.
     6. The SYHL web site will be the official tracking mechanism for the minimum games requirement.

D. Exceptions to the minimum game rule will be at the discretion of the commissioner but will only be considered under the following circumstances.
      1. Injury or Illness- A player who suffers a significant injury or illness may petition the league for an exception. The player must provide written documentation from a certified medical doctor with a detailed explanation of the injury or illness including the date of the onset and the date the player was cleared by the doctor to return to participation.
      2. Other significant and unexpected scenarios such as the death of a parent or sibling which may cause the player to miss an extended portion of the season. These cases will be reviewed by the commissioner to determine the player’s eligibility.

SYHL Player Call Up Process

Purpose- The Player Call Up process is designed as a vehicle for youth hockey organizations to allow players to be called up to a higher level team for a limited number of games while not jeopardizing their current roster position. It is designed to allow associations to:

A. Fill in for teams that have open roster positions due to injury, illness, suspension, vacations, or any other reason for an open rooster slot.
B. Provide players the ability to develop skills by participating in games at a higher skill level than their primary team.

1.0 Eligibility
1.1 The Player Call Up process is only for players who’s primary team is a participant of the current SYHL season. The team the player is being called up to does not have to be a team participating in the SYHL.
1.2 Players may only be called up by teams within the same USA Hockey Sub Affiliate. Example- DYHA Bantam AA may only call up players that are currently rostered on another DYHA team.
1.3 Players may only be called up within the same age division. Example Bantam to Bantam, Peewee to Peewee.
1.4 All players will be designated a “primary team”. That is the team that they intend to play the majority of their games with. This must be done prior to playing in their first league game and will be based upon the USA Hockey 1-T roster that is provided to the SYHL. Players are allowed to move to another primary team during the season provided they meet all current USA Hockey and SYHL procedures.
1.5 Players who move from one primary team to another are eligible to participate in the Player Call Up process for their new team even if they have already participated with their previous team. Example, a player playing Peewee B plays four games at the Peewee A level utilizing the Call Up process. The player is then removed from the Peewee B roster and added to the Peewee A roster. This player may now participate in the Player Call Up process for a Peewee AA team as long as they meet all criteria.

2.0 Number of Games
2.1 Players may participate in a maximum of 4 games per season at the higher level OR one tournament.
2.2 Once the maximum number of games is reached the player may not play any further games for ANY team within the sub affiliate unless they are permanently rostered on that team in which case they must be removed from their primary team’s roster.

3.0 Call Up Procedures
3.1 E-mail the league office at admin@sonoranleague.com with the details of the call up request.
3.2 Only designated association contacts are allowed to make the call up request. This means Hockey Director, Assistant Hockey Director, Association officer, etc. Coaches and/or team managers are NOT allowed to make the request.
3.3 The SYHL will reply as soon as possible indicating the approval or denial of the request.
3.4 The SYHL will track all requests to ensure proper compliance.
3.5 The SYHL Commissioner has ultimate authority to approve or deny any requests.

4.0 Spirit
4.1 The spirit of the Call Up process is to allow associations flexibility and to assist in player development. It is NOT intended as a vehicle for filling vacant roster positions for teams needing players.
4.2 The SYHL commissioner has the authority to deny call up requests if he feels the spirit of the process is being abused.
