Game Operations

Before the Event Begins

1. Each team must provide 3 score sheet stickers to the scorekeeper. Each team is responsible for accurately identifying any player on the roster who may not be playing in that game. Second goalies who are in uniform but not starting are still considered playing. Players on the roster who are not playing should have a single line through their name on the scoresheet.

2. Each team will provide an adult penalty box attendant. Designated penalty box attendants are considered off ice officials and should always act in an appropriate manner.

3. During the warm up period the scorekeeper will verify that players on the ice match the players on the scoresheet and will report any discrepancy to the on ice officials. It will be the on ice officials responsibility to resolve any discrepancy with the head coach.

During the Event

All games will be played under USA Hockey rules with the following exceptions:

Mite-Squirt-Peewee Divisions= 1:10 time slots & 2 man Ref crews

4 Minute warm up
Three 12 minute stop time periods
One 30 second time out.

Bantam Divisions= 1:20 time slots & 3 man Ref crews
4 Minute warm up
Three 14 minute stop time periods
One 30 second time out.

Running Time will take place:
There is no running time during SYHL games.

Curfew Time

1. All SYHL games are curfew games and must run on time. Therefore it may be necessary to adjust the time at the beginning of, or during the 3rd period.

2. Clock adjustments will be calculated using the following formula:

Total time left in the ice slot/2=time left in the 3rd period

For example, if there is 20 minutes left in the ice slot when the 3rd period begins, the clock operator should divide 20 by 2 and therefore put 10 minutes on the clock.

The decision to implement this formula will be at the discretion of the scorekeeper/timekeeper after consultation with the referees and/or rink facility personnel.

Supplementary Discipline

Game Misconduct’s.
USA Hockey rules mandate that any player or team official that receives a game misconduct in any game must serve that suspension during the next game of that team. In addition to this USA Hockey penalty, any player or team official receiving a game misconduct in a SYHL league game must serve the next game of that team in the SYHL. If the game misconduct occurs in the last game of a SYHL event that player or official will have to sit out the next game of that team (in accordance with USA Hockey) plus the next game (or 2 or 3) of that team in the SYHL. This penalty shall not be subject to appeal.
1st Game Misconduct = 1 SYHL game - 2nd Game Misconduct = 2 SYHL games -

3rd Game Misconduct = 3 SYHL games as well as a mandatory review and possible expulsion from league play at the discretion of the commissioner.

Match penalties
SYHL will be considered the “proper authority” for any player or team official that receives a match penalty in a SYHL game. The SYHL disciplinary Committee, in compliance with the most current USA Hockey Annual Guide will be the first body to review the penalty with the understanding that any action taken would be limited to league activities. Any decision made by the SYHL will not enjoin the offenders association from taking further disciplinary action if they so choose.

Two Minute Check from behind
Any two, (2+10), check from behind penalties during the season shall result in a one game suspension. The player will not be removed from the game in progress but must serve the penalty in the next SYHL game of that team. This penalty shall not be subject to appeal.

5-minute major + Game Check from behind
Any one (5+game) check from behind during the season shall result in a one game suspension. This shall be in addition to any specified USA Hockey suspension. Any player receiving two 5-minute majors and game misconducts for checking from behind during the season will be immediately suspended and the incidents reviewed by the disciplinary committee.
